The Curious Clef

New tools, new work!

I recently acquired a new milling machine to aid in the production of violin family bows. Previously, I was using an attachment to my lathe for these types of processes (primarily, frog making), but having a separate machine saves time and helps prevent human errors which can happen when setting up the machine each time I use it. A fun new addition to the mill is having a digital readout (all those grey wires lead to a digital readout for X,Y,Z), which allows me to more accurately measure the exact motion I make with the machine (versus the manual dials).

Looking forward to pumping out accurate and repeatable results with this American-made Sherline Milling machine (chuck was made in Japan)! Keep an eye out for handmade bows made by me here: http://www.samsstrings.com
